Big shout out to Tiisetso Tlelima for featuring Pioneer Unit on South Africa's leading news and lifestyle portal, 24.com.
Check out the interview and free downloads. Don't say we never give you nothing!
That's how we rrrrrrrrroll!!
We know it's not always easy getting hold of SA's hottest Hip Hop album of 2007, Planetary Assault, so we've started setting up regional Street Teams.
We've already got J-Sec on lock through a collaboration with Landymynz Entertainment. If you're favourite music store doesn't stock Planetary Assault, call deePea on 083 642 3159 or email him on deepeaster (at) gmail (dot) com.
In Durban, we've got two dedicated soldiers on the Street Team, Pasgenik aka Pas and Russell aka Firearms. If you're from Durban you probably know these cats already. If not, Pasegenik is a beatboxer who won the regional African Hip Hop Indaba battle in DBN this year & represented DBN at the recent national Battle of the Year event. Firearms is a local MC who has gained a lot of respect amongst heads in DBN.
These cats have got copies of Planetary Assault and they're waiting for your call or email:
- Pasgenik aka Pas
Cell: 073 614 3671
Email: pasgenik (at) webmail (dot) co (dot) za
- Russell aka Firearms
Cell: 082 328 3382
Email: Russel.Hlongwane (at) hlag (dot) com
Want to be on the Street Team?_
We're looking for heads who want to represent other provinces and be part of the tightest Street Team in SA. It's the easiest money you'll ever make! If you sell 10 CDs a week, you can earn R1600 cash a month!!
All you have to do deposit R400 (+ R50 for postage) into the Pioneer Unit Records CC bank account and we'll send you 10 copies of the Planetary Assault CD the next day by registered mail. Contact us for more details.

I got so excited about beginning production on the new video for Go and Ask (Hamb'ubuza) that I decided to do a remix.
I was talking to El Nino earlier about making some hard, dark club bangers for Driemanskap in order to give them a bit more crossover appeal. I'm not sure this remix is particularly radio-friendly, but it's definitely a banger.
You can check it out on my Myspace page. It's the first track in my player.

Check out some photos from a show Driemanskap did at Zula Bar on 14th September this year. They finished off their set with a huge performance of their street anthem, Go and Ask (Hamb'ubuza) from Planetary Assault.

Driemanskap & Macho performing 'Go and Ask'
The Unit was in full effect this weekend as Trusenz broadcast his show, 'Ground Zero', live from Cape Town. The show was broadcast on CKI FM, an SABC station that goes out across the Eastern Cape, on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tru was in town with his band BEE to do a couple of shows so he gave us the opportunity to talk to the people of the EC about what we're up to in Cape Town.
I've only ever been to inside the SABC building in Seapoint to do interviews on GoodHope FM (as they share the building). It was interesting to go deeper into the building and see the somewhat old skool SABC studios.
On Saturday Rattex and I did an interview and we played through his tracks on Planetary Assault. Ratteezy also did a freestyle over the 'Go and Ask' beat.
On Sunday we did it all over again, this time with Driemanskap who killed it as usual. Those boys always bring the FIRE!

Big Tru with his copy of Planetary Assault
Pioneer Unit is featured in a nice double page spread in the October/ November edition of Hype magazine (page 34, right in front of the feature on 50 Cent). The feature is called 'Planetary Assault - A New World - A New Era'.
Thanks to Mizi and Simone at Hype for the support. Also big up to my boys Driemanskap who are at number 1 in the Unsigned Hype chart (we'll have to see what we can do about that 'unsigned' status!).
Support Your Local Product (S.Y.L.P.) and go buy the magazine. In fact, double up and get a spare - someone always steals my copy so I need to have two.

There's a nice feature on Planetary Assault in this month's issue of One Small Seed magazine.
For those of you that don't know, One Small Seed is South Africa's hottest pop culture magazine. Big thanks to Dylan Culhane, Giuseppe and Tracey Lee for the support!
Press release. For immediate release. 18th Sept 2007.
To help engage grass roots support for their first release Planetary Assault and future projects, Pioneer Unit launches a new marketing initiative, the ‘Street Pioneers’ street team.
Street Pioneers is a group of highly motivated individuals who represent the Pioneer Unit brand on the streets. Their job is to let everyone know about the latest music, events, and releases from the labels.
The ‘street team’ concept is common in the US and Europe but not widely used as a promotional tool in South Africa. Word of mouth is one of the most effective ways of generating buzz on the streets, which is after all where Hip Hop lives.
Pioneer Unit CEO Damian Stephens commented, “Street Pioneers is a great way for fans and supporters of SA Hip Hop to get actively involved in the movement, earn some cash and gain real-world music promotion experience.”
In return for promoting events, music and merchandise, Street Pioneer team members get a whole variety of incentives such as free entrance to shows, exclusive t-shirts and the opportunity to make money selling music CDs.

Note to editors: Planetary Assault is the first major release from Cape Town-based independent label Pioneer Unit. The 21-track project was produced by label founder Dplanet (a hip hop veteran of more than 20 years and a pioneering name behind classic material by such SA urban music legends as Pro Kid, Ben Sharpa, Trusenz & Middle Finga). It features a total of 19 different MCs spitting in a combination of six of South Africa’s eleven official languages.
The artists featured on the project smashed down cultural, language and political barriers, as well as inter-crew rivalry, to come together and bring this vision to life.
Planetary Assault is released locally in association with cult Cape Town independent label African Dope Records and distributed nationally by Soul Candi distribution.

Big thanks to DJ Eazy for organising a nice little interview with Contro'Versy, the host of MK89's Hip Hop show. The crew came through to the Planetary Assault launch party to see how we get down and talk to us about what we're planning for the future. The interview aired last night on DSTV's MK89.
They also showed the video for 'How We Roll' by KONFAB, featuring Jaak, which is the first single from Planetary Assault.
Don't worry if you missed it - you can catch repeats of the show throughout the week.
Check out the photos...
